Giddy Up!

Time to load up the cooler, wear your shorts and sneakers, and play some flip cup at the Ginn Mill: Spring kickball is finally here!

Did you read the rules? Did you inspect your shoes for wear and tear? Did you map out your post-work route to the field? Me either. But that's ok. Here's a little information to get you started:

The End is Here

It seems like just yesterday that fall kickball kicked off.

The season ending extravaganza started off Thursday night with Chuck's Team taking on the Ball N Chain Gang. Things started out as usual business with BNCG taking an early lead. But Chuck's Team made an incredible comeback to win 4-3. The Strawberry Seahorses tried to get some momentum going into playoffs, but the Cunning Stunts had a better idea: kick some home runs and grand slams. It took until the final game of the regular season, but the Stunts whipped out their big guns and won 8-4.

And then...PLAYOFFS! An early 10 AM start helped to avoid the snow and cold for most of the day. The 2nd seeded Stunts played 3rd seed Chuck's Team in game 1. A back and forth game had the Stunts down a run (or two?) in the bottom of the 5th, but some clever strategy led to extra innings. Well, one extra inning. And the Stunts eeked out the win by a run. The top seeded BNCG thought Saturday was a better day for doing other things. A skeleton team showed up and took a beating from the regular season whipping boys. The Seahorses made it to the finals with a huge win and a lot of momentum.

The battle for third place was an epic battle of reffing wit and a good time for Chick-fil-a and beer runs. Chuck's Team got screwed by the refs. But as with any sport, that's part of the game. The BNCG secured 3rd place in the 7th inning and their reward was getting to go home because it was cold. Then something something the Seahorses won the final. Everyone gets lucky.

Saturday night was the end of year party. Pretty much everyone dressed up. It was a good time. Ugly clothes, bad mustaches, and fantastic hair-dos. Got pictures? Send them my way!

Sam Engine Goes on Vacation

Same Engine went on vacation. Where does a suave young professional like Sam Engine go on vacation? South of the border of course! I tried to squeeze some quick vacation tips out of him for this week's article.

1. Go to some place that is all inclusive. When you go out to eat, take the fake bill, hold it below the table line, and pretend to leave a huge tip. Your lady friend will surely be impressed. And if she isn't, take advantage of the free booze.

2. Get a room with a balcony. After dinner, tell your lady friend you'll meet her out there for a romantic nightcap. Then, you can use the bathroom without her being able to hear any embarrassing sounds.

3. Get your dance on. But make sure to go to a club with a dancing Batman, so just in case you're an awful dance, you can point at Batman and say "at least I'm not dressed like him."

4. Go sailing. But make sure you know how to sail. You don't want some Latin muchacho stealing your girl.

5. The final tip? Use an extra vacation day or two when you get back to recover. You (hopefully) won't be sleeping very much and you'll probably need to re-hydrate. I've heard rumors that the water in Mexico is bad.

Week 7 - Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet's get it on!

It's getting close to playoffs, and that can only mean one thing: time to get intense. The first game featured Chuck's Team versus the Cunning Stunts. The Stunts tried out a new strategy in the 1st inning. It failed miserably and Chuck's Team took a quick 2-0 lead. After a few quick innings, the Stunts finally hauled in a run in the bottom of the 4th. With only half an inning left and needing two runs, the Stunts resorted to the lame bunting strategy. Unfortunately/fortunately, it worked. Ian "The KB Asshole" Armstrong kicked in the tieing run and it only took one more batter to get the winning run.

The second game showcased the magnificent Strawberry Seahorses and the dominant Ball N Chain Gang. The BNCG was looking to redeem themselves from their only loss in their last game against the Seahorses. And they did just that. They scored several quick runs and maintained their lead the entire game. The Seahorses tried to make a comeback, but fell short losing 5-3.

Then the action started happening. And I'm only going to say one thing about what happened next: 2 Girls, 1 Pitcher.

That's right. If you don't go to the bar, look what you'll miss! One more week of games, and then playoffs on a Saturday. Stock up your coolers, it's going to be an exciting day.

No News is Good News

I'll take all the blame for the lack of blog updates. I could make excuses, but they'd be mostly made up. So on to the news!

Son "Ninja" Noogen will be in Mexico this week and missing kickball.
The cooler has some new stickers on it.
Playoffs are next weekend.
Mid season party and flip cup tournament this Saturday.
Monkey ghosts can be deadly.
It's November and it hasn't even snowed in town yet.
CU, CSU, and Denever Bronco football is all miserable.

Do you have any news?

Week 6 - Catching Up!

My Halloween costume in Hollywood was a big hit. I dressed up like a waiter, and when people asked what I was, I told them "I'm an actor." Unfortunately, big hitting isn't what my team did while I was away. Perhaps a few pep talks from Dan Hawkins or Josh McDaniels and the Cunning Stunts will be ready for the upcoming playoffs. The Ball N Chain Gang scored 4 more runs than the slumping Stunts, and Monica celebrated by winning the Most Ridiculous Female costume contest.

The Strawberry Seahorses not only went costume crazy (Most Original Female: Maria, Most Ridiculous Male: Tyler), but they also went run crazy. A 10-1 win over Chuck's Team will them flying high until next week.

I also heard that three guys from the Stunts dressed up like the Beastie Boys. Very clever. Pictures!

10 Things Not to do at Kickball

10 things not to do at kickball:

10. Drink Coors Lite. OG Coors is what real kickballers drink.
9. Take 3 tequila shots before the game starts. Wait until the 2nd inning stretch.
8. Hold a beer while playing outfield. Hold 2 instead.
7. Run to third. If you're going that far, just go all the way.
6. Not coach third base. It's not not important.
5. Forgetting to lube the needle. If you're going to pump some balls, don't just ram it in there.
4. Show up late. You'll probably be last in the batting order.
3. Strike out. If you strike out in kickball, you better practice your "Would you like fries with that?"
2. Steal fly balls. Unless it's the playoffs, let other people on your team try to catch the ball. Ball hog.
1. Not show up at the bar to claim your winning beer! If you don't drink it, I will.
